Recently, our professional team were called out to attend a residential plumbing job where the client was concerned with the amount of water pooling around the front corner of their home after rain.
Matt, our plumbing estimator, took the call and, because it had only recently rained, organised a site visit with the owner, Mark, to inspect the water pooling and provide expert advice on what was causing the flooding and what was needed to fix the problem.
Initial Inspection at Site
Matt noted there was storm water drainage pits in the area, but they were full of water and not discharging into the site stormwater system.
The advice given to Mark (the owner) was to have us carry out a CCTV inspection of the drains to see what was causing the blockage in Essendon, this would help provide accurate advice on the action required to repair the plumbing problem in the most cost effective and least destructive manner.
Essendon Plumbing Services prides itself on providing solutions not problems, this assists us in being the best residential plumbing team in Melbourne.
CCTV Inspection
Matt organised one of our expert CCTV drainage camera operators to inspect the storm water system and provide a detailed report so he could estimate the action and costs to repair. There was slotted storm water drains “AGGI” and pits in the area, but they had been installed incorrectly, so water was not flowing down the drain, instead it was pooling in the area. The AGGI drainage had been installed without the correct backfill material, which was preventing the water from getting to the drain.
The Solution
Our team ran through a detailed plan and solution to fix the blocked storm drain with Mark, who gave the OK. This involved excavation to the landscaped area, so having clear lines of communication was critical to ensure Mark (owner) was aware of the outcome. Then our plumbers Stev and Caleb were on the job planning the works and commencing the excavation needed to replace a section of slotted storm water drain and pits.
The Work
The old AGGI drains were excavated and trenches prepared with the correct bedding material, new slotted stormwater drains were installed with fall provided to pits.
Pits were installed and trenches backfilled with scoria rock. Topsoil was spread over the site and all rubbish was removed leaving a clean and tidy garden.
