Recently we had an emergency call to fix a plumbing job for Parks Victoria, at Brimbank Park in Keilor Melbourne. It was reported that there was a blocked toilet at one of their popular picnic spots. Being December, the park was heavily occupied with Christmas functions and a toilet block could become a health hazard and cause damage if not attended to immediately.
Plumber Arrives
Our plumbers arrived on site in a quick and professional manner, with Sewer Machine, Water Pressure jet and CCTV camera equipment in hand.
The Action Taken to Fix the Blocked Toilet
Firstly, they attempted to plunge the toilet to clear it enough so they could send the CCTV camera down the drain but were unsuccessful.
Secondly, our plumbers accessed the service cupboard (where all the bathrooms adjoin) to gain entry into the drain, meaning they didn’t need to remove any toilets in the public areas of the bathrooms, which would avoid further inconveniencing the public.
They removed a sewer vent in the service cupboard and accessed the drain from there. A high-pressure water jet was then used to attempt to clear the blockage drain but they were still having no luck, the jet was coming to a complete stop and wouldn’t move any further forward.
A third attempt at clearing the blocked drain was made using the electric sewer machine (sewer snake). Our plumbers attached a retrieving head on the sewer machine cable and sent the snake down the drain. It immediately grabbed onto an object, so they pulled the cable out of the drain to find a t-shirt stuck on the cable, but the drain was still blocked. Our plumbers continued to send the sewer machine cable down the drain several more times, each time retrieving items of clothing (shorts, t shirts and socks) until the drain let go with a big gurgle and started running again.
The team at Essendon Plumbing then flushed the drain with water and ran the CCTV Camera into the drain to ensure that there were no more obstructions. The drain was 100% clear and running correctly again. The sewer vent in the service cupboard was re-instated and the toilet block was re-opened all within an hour, making everyone happy again and the Christmas parties were back in full swing.
