Case Study – Fixing a Burst Pipe in Niddrie

We received a call out to a burst pipe in Niddrie. Our office was advised the owner had already turned the water to her home off and there was nobody at the residence who had had a COVID-19 test or anyone with any flu like symptoms. Arrival On Site

Arriving on site at the appointed time, Caleb firstly turned the water back on before going for a crawl under the house to locate the source of the leak

Inspection

Once he found where the water was pooling under the house, he could just see where the water pipe had pulled away from its fitting inside the brick wall cavity behind a timber floor bearer.

Now that the leaking water pipe had been found, Caleb was able to crawl back out from under the house, turn the mains water back off and prepare to repair the damaged pipe.

The Solution

The first step was to remove a section of brickwork from the outside of the house. Once the pipework was exposed, he could cut out the existing Auspex tee piece and prepare the pipework for a new Sharkbite tee to be installed.

The new tee was installed, and pipework adapted to suit. The water was turned back on again and the repair tested for leaks. The site was then cleaned up and made safe. Then Caleb explained to the owner what had caused the pipe to separate and the works he carried out to repair it.
