Anthony contacted our office and spoke to Richard; he had an issue with his hot water system in Diamond Creek, Melbourne. He was constantly waking up to cold showers in the morning and having to re-light the pilot light all the time, he had had enough!
Anthony confirmed that the hot water heater was over 24 years old, so Richard advised that it may not be worth the expense of servicing it, only to have it fail again in the near future.
Richard provided Anthony with his options and the costs associated, including:
- Replacing his existing gas storage hot water heater with a new one
- Servicing the existing
Anthony chose to replace the existing with a new and the job was booked in for the following morning.
Arrival Onsite:
Our master plumber, Lee, was onsite bright and early the next morning to drain and remove the existing water heater. The unit was drained down and the hot water, cold water and gas was disconnected. Once empty Lee removed the unit and put it in his trailer to be recycled.
New Hot Water Unit Arrives:
The new Rheem 170 litre hot water unit was booked by Richard the day before to be delivered direct to site from our supplier at 8am.
Installation:
The gas cock and cold water duo valve were replaced as they were non-compliant, then the new unit was installed and secured to the wall. Lee installed new pipework on the hot water, cold water and gas from the existing supplies to the unit. A hot tap was left on inside the house while he filled up the storage tank with cold water and removed any air from the system.
Checks & Tests:
The complete gas line from the meter was pressure tested and the hot and cold water pipes checked for leaks. Once all the checks had been made and passed, the new unit was commissioned. Lee also ensured the storage tank temperature exceeded 60 deg Celsius, preventing the possibility of Legionella bacteria growing. The tempering valve setting was also checked to make sure the hot water at the bathroom outlets did not exceed 50 deg Celsius.
Cleaning Up the Site:
Lee cleaned up the site and checked with Anthony that he was happy with the outcome, which he was, and his hot water was once again hot.
Lee was then off to his next job and dropped the old hot water system off at the metal recyclers on the way.
Certificate of Compliance:
A certificate of compliance was sent to Anthony the next day guaranteeing our installation for 7 years, also giving him peace of mind that all our work at Essendon Plumbing Services comes with a lifetime satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy we’ll fix it at no cost to you.
