We had a recent call from a return customer who was having problems with his existing hot water system and needed it to be looked that same day. He advised the hot water tank was approx. 18 years old so we suspected it may have passed its used by date.
The job was scheduled for a time that suited the owner and one of our expert Melbourne plumbers, Dave, was allocated the job.
Arrival, Inspection & Testing
Dave arrived on site and inspected the installation; he then ran a test on the existing hot water unit to see where it was failing. He found the gas cock isolation valve was leaking and the gas control valve was passing gas causing gas roll out. This was an excellent diagnosis from an expert Melbourne hot water plumber.
The Solutions
Due to the age of the unit Dave supplied the owner with several options to change over the hot water system or to replace the faulty gas cock and control valve. He also advised the owner that due to the unit being 18 years old, replacing the gas cock and gas control valve may not be the best long option, but it was completely up to him which way he wanted to progress. The owner decided to replace the old hot water system with a new Rheem Stellar 360 Hot Water Service.
Installing the New Hot Water System
The old hot water service was decommissioned and removed, and the gas cock isolation valve replaced. The hot water, cold water and gas supply pipework was all modified to suit the new Rheem Stellar 360 Hot Water Installation.
The new Rheem Stellar was installed and secured in position and the hot water, cold water and gas were connected. The cold water supply was turned on and the air was bled out of the hot water system while being filled up. Once full, the gas was turned on and the hot water system in Essendon was commissioned. The existing gas line was manometer tested and passed with no leaks.
Site Clean Up
The site was cleaned of all rubbish and the old hot water system was placed in the trailer to be taken away for recycling. Dave then explained to the owner how the new hot water service operated and made sure our customer was happy with the installation before he left. Dave explained that a certificate of compliance would be emailed to the owner.
