We received a call for help from a new client with a leaking sink tap in St Kilda East. Carrie explained she renews her tap washers by another plumbing company, but the dripping tap continued. She suspected it was something more sinister than just tap washers and maybe the breech piece inside the wall cavity needed to be replaced.
Our admin team explained our Plumbing fees in Melbourne and let her know that we have a pricing page on our website that clearly display’s all fees and charges to prevent any surprises at the end of the job. Carrie was happy to proceed, and our admin team scheduled Ben, one of our expert Master Plumbers, to attend site the same day.
Inspection & Cause
Ben arrived at the scheduled time and prior to entering the home, he asked Carrie our COVID19 safe access questions. Both parties were happy to proceed, so Ben entered the home to inspect the leaking kitchen tap in Melbourne.
He turned off the water to the home then removed the tap handles, flanges and spindles to both the hot and cold taps to expose the tap seats located within the kitchen sink breech. It wasn’t long before he identified the cause of the leaking sink, there was a crack in the cold tap seat.
The Solution
Ben then explained that the crack in the tap seat was non-reparable and it would need to be removed and a new one installed.
Unfortunately, the process would involve cutting out a section of kitchen tiles, removing cement mortar from around the breech and cutting out the faulty breech piece. Ben made sure Carrie was clear and understood that when he finished there would be a section of tiles that would need to be replaced behind her taps.
Carrie was happy with the explanation and keen to get the job done.
Installation
Ben cut out the tiles, removed the cement mortar bed, cut the old hot and cold water pipes, to remove the old sink breech piece. The hot and cold pipework was then modified to suit the installation of the new kitchen sink breech.
Testing
Once installed and secured, the tap spindles and new washers were put in place and the water was turned back on for testing. There were no leaks and the dripping tap was fixed.
Ben then manufactured a cover plate to conceal the pipework until Carrie could organise a tiler to replace the section of removed tiles. The tap handles, flanges and buttons were installed, and the area was cleaned, and all rubbish removed.
100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee
Ben made sure Carrie was happy with the outcome before he left. In fact, she was so happy with the work that she took the time to write a Ben a great review (see below).
