Andrew called Essendon Plumbing Services with a leaking pipe in Taylors Lakes.
Richard spoke to Andrew and asked him if he could take a photo of the leak, he would provide an estimate on the cost of repairs prior to attending site.
The photo was sent through and our rates were provided, Andrew was asked our COVID19 safe access questions, and because he answered NO to each, the job was booked in for Friday morning at 7.30am.
Essendon Plumbing Services proudly display all pricing rates, which openly shows all fees and charges with no hidden surprises.
Plumber Arrives at 7.30am
Lee was allocated the job and arrived on site at 7.30 am. As Richard had noted all the information from Andrew’s call, Lee arrived prepared. He knew to have a new 20 mm 500 KPA pressure limiting valve (PLV) in his vehicle because looking at the photo, it appeared the existing PLV on the water meter assembly was the cause of the leak.
COVID-19 Safe Access Questions
Lee asked Andrew our COVID19 safe access questions for his own safety and was happy to proceed with the job. After a brief inspection of the water meter, he confirmed it was a leaking pressure limiting valve and changing the valve would fix the leaking pipe.
An Additional Ask
Andrew asked Lee if it would also be possible to relocate the water meter as he was planning on having his driveaway widened and this was a good opportunity because we were going to isolate his water supply. Lee responded with a YES.
Andrew identified where he would like the water meter to be which was approx. 600mm from its existing location.
Lee then explained he process involved, he needed to first excavate the trench for the new pipework. The new pipework and water meter assembly needed to be installed with the new PLV, ready for the changeover. Andrew agreed and the works began.
Work Begins
Once the trench was dug up, the pipework and new water meter was installed, Lee needed to isolate the water supply. The difference in this job compared to a normal water leak repair in Melbourne is there is no accessible isolation valve to turn the water off between the town water supply and the water meter isolation valve.
Lee needed to freeze the water by creating an ice plug using a quick freeze kit. Once frozen it gives Lee up to 30mins to cut the pipe and do the new connection, which he did. Once the water started to flow again Lee checked his work for any leaks and all was ready for backfilling and cleaning up.
Client Satisfaction Check
As with every job Essendon Plumbing carries out, big or small, the job is not complete until we have spoken to the client and they are happy with the outcome. Andrew was happy with the way the job was completed and the way his garden was left. He was now ready to widen his driveway.
1 Job, 2 Jobs or More…
As with Andrew’s situation, sometimes it might pay to have more than one job carried out while we are on site. We are always flexible and committed to keeping our clients happy, so if you have other work needing to be done, we’ll accommodate by doing them on the day or scheduling them in if more time is needed.
