Our admin team at Essendon Plumbing Services received a call for help from Phil in Strathmore who discovered his stormwater drains were flooding during a recent heavy downpour.
Richard, one of our experienced Operations Managers responded to Phil’s call and advised him the only way to be certain of what was clogging his drains was to carry out a thorough drainage examination of his stormwater system using CCTV. Richard then explained to Phil the costs involved with sending an expert drainage plumber to his home in Strathmore. These costs included the use of specialised drainage equipment to diagnose the blocked drain and any necessary work needed to repair the drain. Phil was happy with the cost and the quick response time offered so Richard booked in the job for a suitable time and date for one of our highly trained plumbers to attend.
Clogged Stormwater in Strathmore
Lee, our expert drainage plumber, arrived on-site at the appointed time and completed a visual inspection of the property’s stormwater system. Lee quickly determined the layout of the stormwater drain and located the discharge point in the street. The stormwater system ran from the rear of the property to the front. He then located an access point in the drain that he would be able to use for the CCTV and high-pressure water jet.
Once all the safety checks were completed on the high-pressure water jet Lee was able to start the jetting procedure and feed the high-pressure hose downstream heading towards the street. A pressure jet blasts approximately 4,000KPA of water through a nozzle to clear obstructions out of drains. Lee could see a large amount of dirt and roots exiting the drain at the legal point of discharge in the street so assumed at this stage it was a build-up of sediment and tree roots causing the stormwater drain to be blocked. He continued to jet the drain to a point where the CCTV camera could carry out a clear inspection of the below ground stormwater drainage system.
Lee was then able to complete a CCTV inspection of the pipework for any defects that could be causing the drain to be clogged. What he found were several breaks in the earthenware pipework where soil and tree roots had entered the drain and a couple areas where the pipe was holding significant amounts of water. Lee then used our Ridgid NaviTrack pipe locator to pinpoint the exact locations of the damaged sections of pipe as well as the depth. He determined there had been several shifts in the pipework due to the various depths detected by the Ridgid NaviTrack.
Lee explained clearly to Phil his diagnosis of the stormwater pipework and showed him the CCTV footage. He advised the next step was to have our Operations Manager, Richard, attend site to provide a quote to replace the sections of damaged pipework. A time was organised for later the same day for Richard to attend the site, provide a detailed quote and explain the procedure for excavation works to take place including the impact it would have on the areas of excavation.
Phil now had a clear understanding of why the drains needed replacing, how they were going to be replaced and the impact it would have on his garden. After taking time to consider his options Phil decided to go ahead with Richard’s quote.
