Ben arrived onsite on the appointed day and time and walked through the job with Colin before gaining access to the roof to carry out a thorough inspection. What Ben found was not what he was expecting, there was literally a rooftop garden growing on the roof. Ivy was growing up from between the adjoining property and onto Colin's roof. There were ivy vines growing over the metal roof and gutters affecting the flow of water over the roof sheets and into the gutters and downpipes.
Ben then explained to Colin what he had found with the use of some photos and that he was going to need to cut and remove the vines before he could make an assessment of where the water was penetrating into the house and what needed to be done to fix the leaking roof. Colin agreed and Ben commenced cutting back the vines and placing the rubbish in black plastic bags to be able to remove it all from the site.
Once the roof and gutters were cleared Ben flood tested the roof with a garden hose and noted there were no visible signs of a leak.
Ben’s expert plumbing opinion was that there was no actual damage to the roof and no further action was required other than routine cleaning of the roof to prevent the vine from growing back over it.
Ben finished on-site by showing Colin some after photos of the roof with all the vines removed.
Colin suspected there may have been more extensive and expensive works required to the roof so was extremely happy with the outcome.
