This video takes you through the steps of how we inspect and find blockages in drains, and how we clear them at Essendon Plumbing Services. If you can’t watch the video right now, read on below for a rundown of how Steph got to the bottom of this clients’ drain blockage.
“Hi, I'm Steph from Essendon Plumbing. I'm at a clients’ house today with a a suspected blocked stormwater drain. It's flooding into their backyard. So, what I'm going to do today is run the pressure jet up there to try and clear it. Once I believe it's cleared, I'm also going to CCTV it and try and find if I can see any issues.
I believe I've cleared the blockage so im going to get the CCTV camera and put it up the stormwater. Now, with the pressure jet still where the blockage was, I'm going to put the CCTV camera in there and locate exactly what position that blockage was. I've also got a counter on the screen, which tells me how far In I am in the stormwater.
I found the pressure jet head, and this is saying that it is approximately four and a half meters from the starting position, which is right here. So, I'm now going to go locating in the backyard with my NaviTrack Locator.
I'm here now with my RIDGID NaviTrack Locator and I'm going to locate the point of the stormwater that my camera is in.
I've located the depth to be at .6 of a meter. There's no obstructions above ground that I can see that was causing a blockage, so I believe it was just my first assessment of debris and leaves in the stormwater drain.

Toilets block when there is an obstruction in the drain or the toilet itself. Obstructions can be foreign objects that have been flushed down a toilet like a toilet deodorizer or kids toys. Drains are designed to flush away water, toilet paper and general sewage. When foreign objects get flushed down a drain they often get caught on bends and junctions in your drainage pipe system. Drainage systems are not designed to flush items like cotton buds, baby wipes, paper towel, sanitary items or excessive amounts of toilet paper. What happens is these items will catch onto any obstructions in the drain and over time build up until it completely blocks the drain.
