Sink drains slowly
When you drain your sink does it take longer than usual to flow away or does the water come up in the bowl beside it? Can you hear gurgling from any other fixtures in your home like your dishwasher or laundry sink? If you can then these are signs you may have a blocked sewer.
Toilet fills when flushed
If your toilet is clear but when you flush the cistern the water won't go away that’s a sure sign your drain is obstructed causing a blocked sewer. If you have sewer smells in you home this is a sign you may have blocked drains and the blockage is causing syphoning of the fixture traps letting sewer smells to enter your home
Gully trap overflowing
Outside your home or business you’ll find your property sewage boundary trap, gully trap or overflow relief gully. These are sewer outlet pipes that will have a grate on top of them and a trap and water seal below to prevent sewer smells exiting the drain. If you find sewage overflowing or built up around these points then you have a sewer blockage that needs to be cleared.
Gurgling sound when toilet is flushed
When a toilet is flushed and it makes a gurgling sound it means there is something in the drain stopping the water being flushed from the toilet and from getting away properly. For your sewer drains to work correctly there needs to be the correct amount of air in the drain, An obstruction will change this and cause the drain to gurgle as air passes over the blockage. Gurgling is a one of the most common sign your sewer is blocked.
Shower recess fills up when showering
When taking a shower the shower base should always be draining water away, if you find water building up around your feet chances are you have a blocked sewer drain. Another sign of a blocked shower drain would be gurgling when you turn the shower off either from the shower or even your basin or bath.
