Recently we attended a house in Mernda who were experiencing a vastly increased water bill than they normally receive.
Using a pressure gauge, our expert plumbers tested the water line to the property and found a drop in pressure. This confirmed that a leak was present at the property. Our plumbing team checked all fixtures inside the property however they were unable to find a cause.
The property has a solar panel installed on the roof for their hot water service. We accessed the roof and found the anti frost valve continuously dripping. So went to our nearest plumbing supplier (Reece), and picked up an Australian standards approved Anti Frost valve. Once we returned to the site we isolated the water to the property. We then removed the damaged anti frost valve, and installed the new valve. We were then able to turn the water back on to the property, and check the valve connections for no further leaks.
Using our pressure gauge on the water line, we again tested for no further drops in pressure. The Pressure gauge held at 350kpa for five minutes, resulting in no further leaks. With the chilling nights of winter, reaching temperatures of 1 degree Celsius. It's common that solar panels can burst. It's important to make sure that we have anti frost valves installed, which at times can also blow due to such low temperatures. Always make sure you have a licensed master plumber attend and products meet Australian standards.
Another problem solved and a very happy customer!
