Recently, we received a call for HELP from a School with a leaking hot water system in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne. Our experienced plumbing estimator, Richard, took the call and attended site the same day to provide a fixed price quote to replace the hot water service.
Inspection & Quote:
There were a couple of non- compliant issues with the original installation, so after Richard provided a written quotation, he contacted the School Principal to run through the scope of work to make sure he understood what he was paying for.
Quote Acceptance:
The quote was accepted, and the school really appreciated Richard turning up to site in such a prompt manner and taking the time to explain his quote in detail.
The school had contacted other plumbing business’s in Moonee Ponds, but some were only willing to provide quotes over the phone or send a plumber to site to quote the job, but if the quote wasn’t accepted, they would still be charged a fee.
Compliance:

The Solution
Sean, one of our Hot Water Plumbing specialists in Moonee Ponds was allocated the job. The original electric hot water system had a failed cold-water isolation valve, which needed to be replaced. The problem was no one knew where or how to turn the water off, without turning the whole school water supply off.
Sean chose to freeze the cold-water pipe supplying the hot water unit, and then installed a new duo valve which allowed him to leave the schools main water supply on, uninterrupted. Sean could then disconnect, drain, and remove the old electric hot water unit.
The Cause
The original hot water installation did not have a safe tray and there was no drainage in the area to connect the tray to. So, Sean needed to install an automated shut off valve as part of the installation, in case the hot water tank ever leaked. If a leak ever occurred, the automated shut off valve would instantly turn the water off and prevent flooding.
A safe drip tray was also installed, hot and cold pipework was renewed and modified then the new hot water system with an automated shut off valve was installed and connected.
Testing
Once all connections were made and sealed the water was turned back on, the hot water tank filled, and air was bled out of the system via the kitchen tap before turning the power back on. Sean tested the unit for leaks, but all connections were dry. All rubbish was cleaned up, cupboards wiped down and rubbish taken away.
100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee
The School Principal was shown the job to make sure he was happy with the installation and the outcome, then Sean proceeded to his next plumbing job in Melbourne.
