Recently we had an emergency call over the weekend to a job called through as a burst water pipe in the ceiling of a home in Brunswick Melbourne. Our Emergency on call Plumber responded to the call immediately and assisted her over the phone to locate the isolation valve and turn the water off to stop the leak.
He then explained her options and the cost difference between having the work completed on a weekend or waiting until Monday morning.
The client decided she didn’t want to go without water until Monday, so chose to have the job attended to on the same day. So, our plumber took the details of the job and logged it into our job operating system.
Plumber Arrives
Our plumber arrived on site within the hour with all the materials to repair a burst water pipe. On inspection, there was an obvious stain on the ceiling and the floor was wet below, it was fairly obvious the leak was located in the ceiling space, but the exact location was still to be found. Initially, the plumber removed roof tiles from above the suspected leak. He had the client turn the isolation valve back on to see if he could visually see the leak on the pipework in the roof space. Once turned on the leaking water pipe was obvious, water was spraying out of a faulty Tee Piece Fitting on the cold-water supply pipework.
The Action Taken to Fix the Burst Water Pipe
There was minimal access to the burst water pipe from the roof, so our plumber took the time to clearly explain the process to the client and the course of action he was going to take to repair the burst pipe. He needed to cut and remove a section of plaster from the ceiling to be able to have enough room to get to the faulty fitting and cut it out. He was then able to insert a new piece of pipe to replace the faulty Tee piece and join the pipe back together. Once the client had a clear understanding of the process, she agreed for the Plumber to proceed and the burst pipe was repaired.
The client had their water back on again, making them another happy client.

Our local plumber in Moonee Ponds attended the job and noted the stain on the plaster ceiling, he then proceeded to problem solve through the possibilities to locate the source. He noted that, as there was a second story to the home, it was less likely to be a roof leak and more likely to be a water leak between floor levels. After carrying out a visual inspection of the home’s layout, it was noted that there was a bathroom on the second storey directly above the area of the stain.
Through this inspection, it was found that the trap washers on the shower base had deteriorated and were leaking. Our plumber removed the damaged trap, installed new pipework to the shower base and water tested it again.
